Coping With Social Anxiety Disorder
We all suffer from anxiety at some time or the other, which is quite normal, but for those people who suffer from social anxiety disorders, (SAD) life can be sheer hell.
These people are afraid to be seen in public, they have very low self esteem, can hardly respond if spoken too, avoid going to parties or formal gatherings, because they feel that everyone is looking at them, talking about them.
They feel so intimidated that they try their best to avoid any situation that could possibly bring attention to themselves. People suffering from social anxiety disorder may find it difficult to go to work or school, this simple task that most of us take for granted.
Here are some of the symptoms that people with social anxiety disorder experience both physically and emotionally. Racing of the heart, cold or hot sweat, trembling, feeling like you are losing it and you are totally out of control, unable to cope. Others are despair, dizziness, insomnia, restlessness, headaches, upset stomach, nervousness, irritability, insecurity, dread, apprehension and confusion.
People suffering with Social anxiety disorder feel afraid most of the time because they feel trapped like there is no hope of them handling the situation no matter how simple and mundane a task it might be.
The good news is there is help for people suffering with social anxiety disorder, for starters there are ways that you can help yourself to cope with your social anxiety disorder and become a happier, healthy, normal person.
Here are some tips to help you cope:
1. Practice positive thinking, whenever a negative thought enters your head, ignore it and turn that thought into a positive one, think of something happy and positive.
2. If you feel an anxiety attack coming on try and relax your body including your mind and take deep breaths.
3. Pick up a sport of hobby that you like to help you spend your free time, exercise is very good for the body as it relieves stress. The more you keep yourself occupied the less time you will have to focus on yourself.
4. You should join an (SAD) group, here you will be able to meet people just like yourself, who are going through the same suffering as you. You will be able to talk freely about your problem and might even make friends. This is very similar to an AA Group.
5. Turn around the way you feel about yourself including the way you look, in other words learn to love yourself and you will certainly feel better about yourself.
Practice these simple tips on a daily basis to help you cope with your social anxiety disorder, and each day you will notice an improvement.
You will find that your self esteem has improved greatly, that you have become a new person, one with a purpose in life and when this happens you will know that you are ready to face the world once more with confidence.
